So, I just wrapped up a pre-marital counseling session with a young couple from my church and it’s got me thinking about a few things…
Is there really such things as “The One”?
Everyone seems to constantly be in search for the right one. But more and more I realize that it’s not about finding “the one” but BEING “the one”.
As I always say, before you walk down the aisle to say “I do,” be sure you know who “I” is. Know yourself. The more you know yourself, the more likely the man or woman you find will love you for who you are.
My advice: Singles, in your pursuit for a husband or wife focus less on developing a long list of qualifications for him or her and concentrate on the qualities which will make you a truly significant other.
Here are five substantial ways to BE “THE ONE”: 1. Be open. Don’t be so rigid in your views and opinions that you block opportunities for growth.
2. Be vulnerable. We all have been hurt. Create purpose from your pain. Don’t be afraid to gift trust and try it again.
3. Do the work. Relationships can be fun but they also take hard work. Be willing to negotiation. Develop your communication skills. Let go of the past. Invest in yourself every day.
4. Get out there. Be findable. Destiny is not gonna come knocking down your door. Shake off the shyness and step it up.
5. Know yourself. Marriage is merging of values. Be fully aware of the treasures and troubles you bring to the table.
I have concluded that there is such thing as “the one.” It’s you. Get prepare to be “the one” for a special someone.
