Do you ever struggle with the insecurity? Most of us do. Actually, from time to time, all of us do. A big one that we often battle is the fear of how others perceive us.
Most people say, “I don’t care what people think of me.” When I hear someone say that, I quietly assume in my mind that they really mean just the opposite. The truth is… feeling like you are being judged doesn’t feel good.
You can fight the feeling. You sincerely can refrain from concern about what another thinks about the way you live. I fight (and win) this battle daily. Here are a few ways to beat this beast:
- Don’t compare yourself to others.
- Don’t allow another person’s opinion debilitate you.
- Don’t be easily offended.
- Accept who you are.
- Realize EVERYONE has strengths AND weaknesses.
- Focus on the positive.
- Build character.
- Maintain your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.
- Recognize your special gifts and talents.
- Balance your pride (be proud of yourself, but don’t get the big head).
- Set goals and plans for your self-improvement.
- Be patient.
Sidenote: While you are working to build your security, don’t tear down another’s. Make sure you are not judging others. Furthermore, don’t be too harsh or judgmental with yourself. Just work on changing yourself into the beautiful creature God wants you to become.
