Okay, so I have written several posts lately to help singles get out and meet people…
How to be Open to Love
Looking for “The One”
Hey Singles, GET OUT!
Let me help you a step further. Once you get the nerve to get out, sparking a genuine conversation can be a major obstacle. Here is a little ice-breaker to keep in your head when you draw a blank. Think PMS:
P – Philosophy
M – Metaphor
S – Story
This will actually work in a multitude of situations… networking, discipleship, customer service, etc. When you are at a loss for words, reference your go-to PMS.
Now, I know PMS is usually not a good thing. But the sheer idea that you will have that in your head will cause you to snicker and become instantly light-hearted. Okay, I will show you how this works…
What if you meet someone at a wedding reception? (Which is a great place to grab a willing single, BTW.) Here is how to use the PMS tool to strike up conversation:
Philosophy – I LOVE weddings. This was a great wedding. Everything was so beautiful. How do you know the couple? (Start on a positive note.)
Metaphor – Weddings are like roller coasters; you never want it to end. (Careful with this one, it could come of corny. It doesn’t have to make sense, just make it cute.)
Story – What a great wedding? It reminds me of a recent wedding I saw at my church. They are a great couple too. I love to see how God continues to put amazing people together. (Don’t make it too long, serious or involved. Just get the ball rolling.)
This method is not full proof, but it will help. Just be relaxed and charming.
If you use it to introduce someone to Christ; tell them how much you love God (P), how His love is like a refreshing glass of lemonade in August (M) and share the day He change your life.
This is the new, improved, life-changing PMS.
